Environmental Stewardship
The Lancaster AI Hub is NOT one of the datacenters of the past, generating serious community and environmental issues around water, electricity and power demand, noise and more. Instead, it’s a next-generation facility, employing state-of-the-art technologies to set new standards for energy efficiency, sustainability, water conservation, and noise reduction.
As part of the project, approximately $200 million will be invested in infrastructure upgrades to the local power grid, in partnership with PPL Electric Utilities. This investment will make Lancaster’s grid safer, more efficient, and more resilient, and will ultimately enable the AI Hub project to end up generating more power for the region than it consumes.
The facility will utilize closed-loop cooling systems and operate with minimal municipal water use and no added chemicals, dramatically reducing impact on local water resources.
Noise
Building cooling will rely on ultra-quiet, magnetic-levitation chiller systems specifically designed for urban settings. These systems significantly reduce noise while maintaining energy efficiency, with total sound levels staying below the levels of normal human conversation.
Air Quality
Emergency backup generators will be fully enclosed to minimize noise and equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction systems, achieving up to a 99.8% reduction in emissions. Further, the use of these generators is expected to be extremely rare.
